Tibert his research at the VU University Amsterdam centers on how organizations can use emerging web-based technologies to serve their customers in the most optimal way. His research can be divided into the following sub-themes:

Emerging technologies: What the value of specific emerging web-based technologies. Studied technologies include virtual agents, augmented reality, social media and mobile applications.

Online consumer behavior
: What is the influence of shopping system characteristics on online consumer behavior? Rational, unplanned and impulsive consumer behavior is studied.

Research methodology: Reliable measurement instruments and robust data analysis are crucial. This research adds to measurement practices and addresses the use of new data analytics (big data).
